Manok Cohen is a Healdsburg, California-based artist renowned for her acrylic paintings and wire sculptures. Born in Laos to a Vietnamese mother and French father, she was raised in Normandy, France, after the Vietnam War. In the late 1970s, she spent a decade in the South of France weaving tapestries before moving to Paris to work for the fashion house Kenzo, where she developed a profound understanding of color. In the early 1990s, Cohen relocated to Northern California, inspired by its natural beauty. Her work often features organic forms and textures, drawing inspiration from nature. Her paintings involve applying multiple layers of acrylics and mixed media on wood panels, creating depth through scraping and wiping techniques. Influenced by artists like Ruth Asawa, Cohen also creates large-scale wire sculptures using crochet techniques, resulting in flowing, organic forms.
